    Sailfest 2026 — Friday Night Casual Racing (STYC / SSC / CYC Seattle)

    Vessel: R/22 "Patriot X" — Sail #2201

    Team: Team Patriot Sailing

    Event: Sailfest 2026 — weekly Friday-night casual racing, no

    official scoring. Three series:

    June: 29 May, 5, 12, 19, 26 Jun

    July: 3, 10, 17, 31 Jul (no race 24 Jul)

    August: 7, 14, 21, 28 Aug

    Reference: Sailfest 2026 NOR/SI; STYC GNOR/GSIs (course mark

    descriptions); current RRS

    Time Zone: All times local (America/Los_Angeles)

    ================================================================

    1. SITUATION

    ================================================================

    a. Area of Operations: Puget Sound near Shilshole Bay; start line

    between the N Buoy and the white rock on the breakwater. The Ship

    Canal Restricted Area is off-limits to sailboats, bounded by:

    - South end of the Shilshole breakwater NW to Buoy C"1" (Green

    Can #1)

    - Buoy C"1" SW to Buoy N"2" (Red Nun #2)

    - Buoy N"2" SE to Buoy N"4"

    Exercise caution near the Ship Canal entrance — heavy traffic and

    shallow water SW of the entrance buoys.

    b. Friendly Forces: Joint STYC/SSC/CYC Seattle Race Committee, on

    station at the start (not running a formal signaled sequence);

    fellow cruisers, racers, liveaboards, and dinghies of all

    abilities, with or without PHRF ratings.

    c. Format Note: This is casual, unscored racing. No protesting, no

    yelling, and no contact between boats. Boats of greater sailing

    ability must go out of their way to avoid boats of lesser

    ability — this is a rule, not just courtesy. Motors may not be

    used while racing.

    d. Dock Call: 1745 — one hour prior to the 1845 start.

    ================================================================

    2. MISSION

    ================================================================

    Team Patriot Sailing deploys R/22 "Patriot X" (Sail #2201) to join

    Sailfest's Friday night casual racing, sailing an honest, low-

    pressure race each week to build crew reps and enjoy the series,

    with an emphasis on courtesy and fun over competitive scoring.

    ================================================================

    3. EXECUTION

    ================================================================

    a. Concept of Operations: Race per the current RRS as modified by

    these Sailing Instructions toward a relaxed, cruiser-friendly

    format. There is one start each night, at 1845, timed on GPS

    rather than an RC-signaled sequence — Patriot X's own GPS clock

    is the authority on start time, not the RC boat.

    b. Schedule of Events:

    SERIES DATES START TIME LIMIT ENDS

    June 29 May, 5, 12, 19, 26 Jun 1845 1.25 hrs 2000

    July 3, 10, 17, 31 Jul (skip 7/24) 1845 1.25 hrs 2000

    August 7, 14, 21, 28 Aug 1845 1.25 hrs 2000

    c. Course: Either N-B-M-N or N-M-B-N depending on wind conditions,

    announced on VHF 69 at 1830 the night of the race and posted on

    the STYC website at 1800 the same night. Refer to the 2026 STYC

    GNOR/GSIs for mark descriptions and distances between marks.

    d. Divisions: None — single fleet, single start, no official

    scoring.

    e. Coordinating Instructions:

    (1) Turn Patriot X's GPS on at least 5 minutes before the 1845

    start to make sure satellites are acquired — GPS time isn't

    accurate until then, and it's the official start time.

    (2) There is no skippers' meeting for this series. Check the

    STYC website for any weekly changes, posted by 1800 the

    Friday of the race (same day, not the night before).

    (3) Time limit is 1.25 hours with no extensions — all racing

    ends at 2000 regardless of finish status.

    (4) Stay clear of the Ship Canal Restricted Area at all times —

    treat it as a hard boundary, not a racing mark to round.

    (5) Channel differs from STYC's scored series — this is VHF 69,

    not 72. Confirm the right channel is dialed in before

    heading out.

    (6) No PHRF rating required to race — if Patriot X doesn't have

    one on file for this purpose, that's not a barrier to

    joining.

    ================================================================

    4. SUSTAINMENT / SERVICE SUPPORT

    ================================================================

    a. Parking: Not specified in this SI — use standard marina/venue

    guidance.

    b. Personal Equipment: Standard PFDs and weather-appropriate attire.

    No motor use is permitted while racing, so plan maneuvers

    (docking approach, retiring, etc.) with that in mind.

    c. Weather: Course direction depends on wind — check conditions and

    the VHF/website course announcement before heading out each

    week.

    d. Post-Race: No formal after-party. If the CYC Clubhouse is open,

    crew is welcome to gather at the bar to debrief — no food will be

    available.

    ================================================================

    5. COMMAND AND SIGNAL

    ================================================================

    a. Command: Team Skipper — Rick Meldrum. All crew and logistics

    questions route through the Skipper first.

    b. Signal:

    (1) On-water: VHF channel 69 (course announced 1830) — different

    from the VHF 72 used in STYC's scored series; don't mix

    these up.

    (2) Skipper contact — email: meldrum.rick@uspatriotsailing.org

    | phone: 808-640-7013.

    (3) Ratings/questions: STYC handicappers or race organizers via

    www.styc.org.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

    NOTE: This series is unscored and casual by design — no protests,

    no contact, mandatory give-way courtesy to less experienced boats.

    Double-check VHF 69 (not 72) before each race, watch the Ship Canal

    Restricted Area boundary, and note the July series skips the week of

    24 Jul.

    a. Area of Operations: Shilshole Bay Marina and adjacent Puget Sound

    racing area (see STYC NOR Addendum B — Puget Sound Events — for

    b. Friendly Forces: STYC Race Committee, on the water and monitoring

    VHF channel 72; fellow competitors racing in PHRF Flying Sails,

    PHRF Non-Flying Sails, and ORC divisions.

    c. Attachments/Detachments: None. Volunteering Patriot X or crew for

    Race Committee boat duty is an option STYC encourages (does not

    harm series score — see Coordinating Instructions).

    d. Dock Call: 1700, at the dry storage lot on the north end of the

    marina. Enter through the gated door between the double cranes

    and the bathrooms, behind the "Little Coney" food stand.

    2. MISSION

    ================================================================

    Team Patriot Sailing deploys R/22 "Patriot X" (Sail #2201) to compete

    in STYC Ballard Cup III, executing a safe, well-drilled start-to-finish

    race in order to secure a top-3 class finish while building the crew's

    teamwork and boat-handling proficiency.

    ================================================================

    3. EXECUTION

    ================================================================

    a. Concept of Operations: Race per the current Racing Rules of Sailing

    as modified by the STYC General NOR/SI, these Sailing Instructions,

    and USCG VTS Navigation Rules. Priority is a clean start, a safe

    course around the RC-signaled marks, and a controlled finish — with

    crew development as an explicit secondary objective.

    b. Schedule of Events:

    RACE DATE WARNING SIGNAL EST. START TIME LIMIT (DNF AFTER)

    24 Aug 26 1810 ~1815 2030

    31 Aug 26 1810 ~1815 2030

    c. Course: Signaled by the RC boat using any combination of marks

    N, B, E, M, R, U, W, 2; may also be announced on VHF 72. Confirm

    course letters visually and by radio before the warning signal —

    full mark descriptions and locations are in NOR Addendum B (not

    attached; pull from STYC before race night).

    d. Divisions: PHRF Flying Sails, PHRF Non-Flying Sails, and ORC.

    Confirm Patriot X's assigned division/class break on styc.org

    (posted by 2000 the Sunday before the first race) before racing.

    e. Coordinating Instructions:

    (1) No skippers' meetings are held for this series — crew is

    responsible for checking the STYC Race Notice Board for

    changes.

    (2) SI changes post by 0900 the day they take effect; schedule

    changes post by 1800 the day before. On-water changes are

    announced via VHF and signaled with Flag Lima.

    (3) Boats without a valid PHRF/ORC certificate stay clear of the

    starting area until all classes have started.

    (4) Comms failures (RC not transmitting, or crew not hearing a

    transmission) are not grounds for redress — treat VHF 72 as

    best-effort, not guaranteed, and keep eyes on the RC boat's

    visual signals.

    (5) Goal per the organizers: run as long a race as possible and

    have the last finisher cross before dark — pace and daylight

    awareness matter as much as boat speed.

    ================================================================

    4. SUSTAINMENT / SERVICE SUPPORT

    ================================================================

    a. Parking: Street parking advised; any space not marked with blue

    lines is acceptable.

    b. Personal Equipment: PFDs and gloves will be provided by the boat.

    Crew brings attire appropriate to forecast conditions — a WARNO

    will go out before each race night with expected weather.

    c. Weather: Await the pre-race WARNO for wind, temperature, and

    precipitation expectations; dress and rig accordingly.

    d. Post-Race: Awards and social gathering at the Sloop Tavern, 2830

    NW Market St, Seattle, WA 98107, following racing (pending any

    protests). Ballard Cup stickers awarded each race (gold/silver/

    Event: STYC J&J Race — single race day, 23 Aug 2026

    Reference: J&J Race NOR/SI 2026; STYC General Sailing Instructions

    (GSI); current RRS; USCG VTS Navigation Rules

    Time Zone: All times local (America/Los_Angeles)

    ================================================================

    1. SITUATION

    ================================================================

    a. Area of Operations: Puget Sound racing area, departing Shilshole

    Bay Marina (STYC home venue). Specific mark diagram not included

    in this SI — confirm venue/mark chart with STYC before race day.

    b. Friendly Forces: STYC Race Committee, on the water and monitoring

    VHF channel 72; fellow competitors racing in PHRF Flying Sails,

    PHRF Non-Flying Sails, and ORC divisions.

    c. Crew Limitation (critical): This is a single- or double-handed

    race. Total crew aboard — including the skipper — is limited to

    2. Exceeding this results in disqualification. Confirm the

    race-day crew roster before dock call.

    d. Dock Call: 1000 — one hour prior to the first start (1100).

    ================================================================

    2. MISSION

    ================================================================

    Team Patriot Sailing deploys R/22 "Patriot X" (Sail #2201), crewed

    within the 2-person shorthanded limit, to compete in the STYC J&J

    Race, executing a safe, well-managed distance race in order to

    secure a top-3 class finish while building the crew's shorthanded

    sailing proficiency and self-sufficiency.

    ================================================================

    3. EXECUTION

    ================================================================

    a. Concept of Operations: Race per the current Racing Rules of

    Sailing as modified by the STYC GSI, these Sailing Instructions,

    and USCG VTS Navigation Rules. This is a shorthanded distance

    race — full course (16.045 nm) or short course (2 laps) as

    signaled before the start. Priority is safe short-handed

    operation, correct mark rounding for the signaled wind direction,

    and tracking the lap-1 completion signal to know whether the race

    ends after one lap or continues to the second.

    b. Schedule of Events:

    RACE DATE WARNING SIGNAL 1ST START TIME LIMIT / TLE WINDOW

    23 Aug 26 1055 1100 6 hrs (1st boat) + 30 min

    c. Course:

    (1) Full course length: 16.045 nautical miles.

    (2) Short course, if signaled before the start: 2 laps of 5.114 nm

    each.

    (3) Lap 1 completion: a sound signal at the end of lap 1 means the

    race is finished; no signal means proceed to lap 2. Watch and

    listen closely at the mark.

    (4) RC will take times at the end of lap 1, which may be used to

    decide the race in the event winds die in lap 2.

    (5) Either course may be shortened after the start at any mark per

    the STYC GNoR.

    (6) Mark sequences — confirm wind direction call from RC before

    the warning signal:

    Long Course — North wind (marks to port): N-U-W-N-M-B-N

    Long Course — South wind (marks to starboard): N-W-U-N-B-M-N

    Short Course — North wind (marks to port): N-M-W-N-2

    Short Course — South wind (marks to starboard): N-W-M-N-2

    Confirm Patriot X's assigned division/class break on styc.org by

    1800 Friday, 21 Aug (two days before the race).

    e. Coordinating Instructions:

    and USCG VTS Navigation Rules. Priority is a clean start, a safe

    course around the RC-signaled marks, and a controlled finish — with

    crew development as an explicit secondary objective.

    b. Schedule of Events:

    RACE DATE WARNING SIGNAL EST. START TIME LIMIT (DNF AFTER)

    27 Jul 26 1810 ~1815 2030

    3 Aug 26 1810 ~1815 2030

    10 Aug 26 1810 ~1815 2030

    17 Aug 26 1810 ~1815 2030

    ================================================================

    4. SUSTAINMENT / SERVICE SUPPORT

    ================================================================

    NW Market St, Seattle, WA 98107, following racing (pending any

    protests). Ballard Cup stickers awarded each race (gold/silver/

    bronze); series trophies presented the night of the final race,

    31 Aug.

    ================================================================

    5. COMMAND AND SIGNAL

    ================================================================

    a. Command: Team Skipper — Rick Meldrum. All crew and logistics

    questions route through the Skipper first.

    b. Signal:

    (1) On-water: VHF channel 72 (STYC Race Committee).

    (2) Skipper contact — email: meldrum.rick@uspatriotsailing.org

    | phone: 808-640-7013.

    (3) Race Committee / STYC: race@styc.org.

    STYC Women at the Helm Regatta II — Saturday, 12 September 2026

    Vessel: R/22 "Patriot X" — Sail #2201

    Team: Team Patriot Sailing (helm eligibility restriction

    applies — see Situation)

    Event: STYC Women at the Helm Regatta II — Saturday, 12 Sep

    2026 (multi-race day, up to 3 races)

    Reference: Women at the Helm Regatta II NOR/SI 2026; STYC GSI;

    current RRS; USCG VTS Navigation Rules

    Time Zone: All times local (America/Los_Angeles)

    ================================================================

    1. SITUATION

    ================================================================

    a. Area of Operations: Puget Sound racing area in the vicinity of

    Shilshole Bay, between West Point and Spring Beach. Refer to the

    STYC GNOR for course mark descriptions.

    b. Friendly Forces: STYC Race Committee, on the water and monitoring

    VHF channel 72; fellow competitors racing in PHRF Flying Sails,

    PHRF Non-Flying Sails, and ORC divisions.

    c. Crew Eligibility (critical): The helmsperson must self-identify

    as female or non-binary in everyday life. This is defined as

    whoever steers the boat from 4 minutes before the start through

    the finish, except for momentary absences for personal or

    shipboard needs. Confirm who is helming Patriot X for this event

    well before dock call — this determines eligibility to race

    under these SIs.

    d. Dock Call: 0900 — one hour prior to the first warning signal

    window; the first class starts at 1000 (first warning at 0955).

    ================================================================

    2. MISSION

    ================================================================

    Team Patriot Sailing deploys R/22 "Patriot X" (Sail #2201), with an

    eligible helmsperson at the wheel per event rules, to compete in the

    STYC Women at the Helm Regatta II, executing safe and consistent

    racing across all attempted races in order to secure a top-3 class

    finish while supporting the event's mission of putting women and

    non-binary sailors in the driver's seat.

    ================================================================

    3. EXECUTION

    ================================================================

    a. Concept of Operations: Race per the current Racing Rules of

    Sailing as modified by the STYC GSI, these Sailing Instructions,

    and USCG VTS Navigation Rules. This is a multi-race event — the

    Race Committee will attempt to run 3 races in one day. Priority

    is a clean handoff of the helm before the 4-minute mark of each

    start (if rotating helmspeople) and consistent racing across all

    attempted races.

    b. Schedule of Events:

    RACE DATE 1ST WARNING 1ST CLASS START TIME LIMIT FIN. WINDOW

    12 Sep 26 0955 1000 2.5 hrs 30 min (TLE)

    c. Course: Up to 3 races will be sailed in the vicinity of Shilshole

    Bay between West Point and Spring Beach. Specific mark

    descriptions are in the STYC GNOR (not attached to this SI) —

    pull the current GNOR before race day and confirm mark locations.

    d. Divisions: PHRF Flying Sails, PHRF Non-Flying Sails, and ORC.

    Confirm Patriot X's assigned division/class break on styc.org by

    1800 Friday, 11 Sep (the day before the race).

    e. Coordinating Instructions:

    (1) Verify and lock in the eligible helmsperson before dock call

    — the helm requirement runs continuously from 4 minutes

    before the start through the finish, so plan crew positions

    accordingly rather than sorting it out on the starting line.

    (2) Watch class flags carefully during the starting sequence —

    with multiple races run back-to-back, staying oriented on

    which class/flag applies to Patriot X matters more than

    usual.

    (3) SI changes post by 0900 the day they take effect; schedule

    changes post by 1800 the day before. On-water changes are

    announced via VHF and signaled with Flag Lima.

    (4) Comms failures (RC not transmitting, or crew not hearing a

    transmission) are not grounds for redress — treat VHF 72 as

    best-effort.

    (5) Boats finishing after the finishing window (30 min after the

    first boat in class finishes) are scored Time Limit Expired

    (TLE), one point worse than the last in-window finisher.

    ================================================================

    4. SUSTAINMENT / SERVICE SUPPORT

    ================================================================

    a. Parking: Not specified in this SI. Prior STYC race-day guidance

    was street parking, avoiding any space marked with blue lines —

    confirm this still applies for this event.

    b. Personal Equipment: Standard PFDs and foul-weather attire

    appropriate to forecast conditions. Await the pre-race WARNO for

    expected weather.

    c. Weather: Await the pre-race WARNO for wind, temperature, and

    precipitation expectations; dress and rig for a full day of

    multiple races.

    d. Post-Race: Awards and raffle at the Shilshole Bay Marina plaza,

    1800; awards at 1830, raffle to follow.

    ================================================================

    5. COMMAND AND SIGNAL

    ================================================================

    a. Command: Team Skipper — Rick Meldrum. All crew and logistics

    questions route through the Skipper first.

    b. Signal:

    (1) On-water: VHF channel 72 (STYC Race Committee).

    (2) Skipper contact — email: meldrum.rick@uspatriotsailing.org

    | phone: 808-640-7013.

    (3) Race Committee / STYC: race@styc.org.

    (4) Skippers' Meeting: online, Friday, 11 Sep (time TBD in this

    SI — confirm on the race webpage). Attend online or by

    phone.

    for this event, Patriot X's division/class assignment, current STYC

    3. EXECUTION

    ================================================================

    a. Concept of Operations: Race per the current Racing Rules of

    Instructions, and USCG VTS Navigation Rules. This is a multi-race

    event — the Race Committee will attempt to run 3 races in one

    since multiple classes will be starting in sequence.

    Time Zone: All times local (America/Los_Angeles)

    ================================================================

    1. SITUATION

    ================================================================

    PHRF Non-Flying Sails, and ORC divisions.

    c. Attachments/Detachments: None noted. Standard fully-crewed

    operation (no crew-size restriction in this SI).

    d. Dock Call: 1000 — one hour prior to the first warning signal

    window; the first class starts at 1100 (first warning at 1055).

    ================================================================

    2. MISSION

    ================================================================

    Team Patriot Sailing deploys R/22 "Patriot X" (Sail #2201) to compete

    in the STYC Fall Regatta, a multi-race day, executing safe and

    consistent racing across all attempted races in order to secure a

    top-3 class finish while sharpening the crew's race-day repeatability

    — starts, mark roundings, and finishes run back-to-back.

    ================================================================

    3. EXECUTION

    ================================================================

    a. Concept of Operations: Race per the current Racing Rules of

    Sailing as modified by the STYC GNOR/SI, these Sailing

    Instructions, and USCG VTS Navigation Rules. This is a multi-race

    event — the Race Committee will attempt to run 3 races in one

    day. Priority is turning around cleanly between races: debrief

    fast, re-set for the next start, and watch class flags closely

    since multiple classes will be starting in sequence.

    b. Schedule of Events:

    RACE DATE 1ST WARNING 1ST CLASS START TIME LIMIT FIN. WINDOW

    19 Sep 26 1055 1100 2.5 hrs 30 min (TLE)

    1800 Friday, 18 Sep (the day before the race).

    e. Coordinating Instructions:

    (1) Watch class flags carefully during the starting sequence —

    with multiple races run back-to-back, staying oriented on

    which class/flag applies to Patriot X matters more than

    usual.

    (2) SI changes post by 0900 the day they take effect; schedule

    changes post by 1800 the day before. On-water changes are

    announced via VHF and signaled with Flag Lima.

    (3) Comms failures (RC not transmitting, or crew not hearing a

    transmission) are not grounds for redress — treat VHF 72 as

    best-effort.

    (4) Boats finishing after the finishing window (30 min after the

    first boat in class finishes) are scored Time Limit Expired

    (TLE), scored one point worse than the last in-window

    finisher — this is a real scoring consequence, not just a

    DNF, so push to finish within the window.

    ================================================================

    4. SUSTAINMENT / SERVICE SUPPORT

    ================================================================

    a. Parking: Not specified in this SI. Prior STYC race-day guidance

    was street parking, avoiding any space marked with blue lines —

    confirm this still applies for this event.

    b. Personal Equipment: Standard PFDs and foul-weather attire

    appropriate to forecast conditions. Await the pre-race WARNO for

    expected weather.

    c. Weather: Await the pre-race WARNO for wind, temperature, and

    precipitation expectations; dress and rig for a full day of

    multiple races.

    d. Post-Race: Awards announced at 1900 (7pm) at the Sloop Tavern.

    ================================================================

    5. COMMAND AND SIGNAL

    ================================================================

    a. Command: Team Skipper — Rick Meldrum. All crew and logistics

    questions route through the Skipper first.

    b. Signal:

    (1) On-water: VHF channel 72 (STYC Race Committee).

    (2) Skipper contact — email: meldrum.rick@uspatriotsailing.org

    | phone: 808-640-7013.

    (3) Race Committee / STYC: race@styc.org.

    (4) Skippers' Meeting: online, 1900 Friday, 18 Sep. Attend online

    or by phone — confirm meeting details on the race webpage in

    advance.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

    NOTE: Items to confirm before race day — Patriot X's division/class

    assignment, current STYC GNOR mark diagram (not included in this

    SI), skippers' meeting link/dial-in details, the pre-race WARNO, and

    current parking guidance.
